BC Racers was made in the year 1995 by a company called Core Design, and was just now recently turned into a freeware game. It gives you the chance of playing a very funny racing game that takes place in a prehistoric period of time. It was such a great success when released, that they made it available for all systems they had back then. In the main menu options you have to choose difficulty; Practice, Easy, Medium and ROCKHARD. All the difficulty levels have 8 circuits, where you can spend some time driving these prehistoric cars. When you've finished all the 8 circuits, you win a trophy. After you win all the 8 rounds in all the difficulty levels, you will get a prize: the adored boulder bash bike.

The first thing you do when you begin playing the game is choose which team you want to race with. When you're driving the cars, you can use some tricks to help you out. You have weapons in your sidecart, which you can use to shoot your oponents with. You'll notice that all the bikes except the Dino-bike have a sidecart, where another member of your team sits. That member is responsible for attacking the other racers with your special weapons. All the players have different kinds of weapons, everything from clubs to screaming women. If you attack someone with them sufficiently, it will throw your opponent's bike off the track. Be careful though, your bike can be damaged by weapons too. If your bike gets destroyed you will lose a life.

The game has a two-player option, where the screen is split in two on the main screen for each player.

The first race takes place in "Rock City". The second race is more difficult as it is at night and by the end of the game you have played in deserts, swamps and a very difficult "volcano dash" last track, among other tracks. Let's look at other things about the game. The graphics are good for the time the game was made, with many colours. The controls are confusing when beginning, you accelerate with 'q', brake with 'a', go left with ',' and go right with '.'. You activate turbo-mode by pressing 'a' while making a handbrake turn. Press 'p' to pause the game. While paused, you can change the detail of the game with the F# keys (F1, F2...). The graphics are good but you need to play in DOSBOX.

To wrap things up, BC Racers is a very nice racing game and you will have a lot of fun with it if you like games in the style of Wacky Wheels. I give this game 4 carrots of a maximum five.
